Breakfast. Private transfer to the Rovos train station to begin our fantastic journey that will end in Cape Town. We board the vintage wooden carriages and relax as some of the most varied landscapes imaginable unfold beyond the windows. With discreet and friendly service, the finest cuisine, and a selection of South Africa's best wines, Rovos Rail harkens back to a simpler, more elegant era that embodies the timeless grace and romance of African exploration. The beautifully restored carriages transport a maximum of 72 passengers in 36 magnificently appointed suites. We depart from Rovos’ private station in Pretoria, traveling south through the gold fields of Witwatersrand. We can freshen up in our lovely suite before joining other travelers in the lounge or observation car at the back of the train. At 1:00 p.m., we’ll enjoy lunch in the dining cars. At 4:30 p.m., we have the chance to enjoy an afternoon tea in the lounge or observation cars. At 7:30 p.m., we’ll enjoy dinner in the dining cars. Please remember the dress code for dinner is "formal." Overnight on board.
Breakfast as we continue our journey towards Kimberley. After lunch, we will enjoy a tour of the Kimberley Diamond Mine Museum and the Big Hole. The capital of the Northern Cape, Kimberley is well known for the discovery of diamonds that led to its establishment in 1871. Dinner and overnight on board.
Breakfast. We will cross a vast semi-desert region that was once a massive inland sea. Over millions of years, volcanic matter was ground down and deposited as silt on the seabed, forming what geologists call the Karoo system. After lunch on the train, we’ll disembark in Matjiesfontein, where we’ll have the opportunity to stroll through this historic village. Of particular interest are the platform museum and a collection of historic cars and railway carriages. Dinner and overnight on board.
Breakfast as the train travels through the Hex River Valley. Arrival in Cape Town and private transfer to the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Accommodation. For our days in Cape Town, we have the Cape Town Pass, which can be picked up at various locations around the city, such as the Waterfront. The Cape Town Pass includes admission to selected tourist attractions as well as two open-top bus routes. Accommodation.
Breakfast. Free day to explore the city at your own pace with the Cape Town Pass. We recommend an optional visit to the Cape Peninsula. Visiting the Cape of Good Hope is almost a must. It’s a place with a unique atmosphere—perhaps due to its breathtaking beauty, stunning landscape, legendary wildness, the waves crashing against the rocks, or the untamed sea that earned it the nickname "Cape of Storms." Visiting the Cape is an awe-inspiring experience. Not even the best camera in the world can capture the sublime beauty of this place. Therefore, we suggest taking the cable car (or alternative transport if it’s closed) to enjoy the magnificence of this site in all its splendor. Accommodation.
Breakfast. Free day to enjoy the city at our own pace.
Breakfast. Free time. At the scheduled time, transfer to Cape Town airport to depart on a flight to the city of origin, via international stopover. Overnight on board.
