Flight to Cape Town, via international stopover. Overnight on board.
Arrival and private transfer to the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Accommodation. For these days in Cape Town, we have the Cape Town Pass, which can be collected at various locations in the city, such as the Waterfront. The Cape Town Pass includes certain entries to tourist attractions, as well as 2 open-top tourist bus routes. Accommodation.
Breakfast. Free day to enjoy the city at your own pace with the Cape Town Pass. Optionally, we recommend visiting the Cape Peninsula. Visiting the Cape of Good Hope is almost a must. It’s a place with a unique atmosphere—whether due to its breathtaking beauty, the stunning landscape, its wild and untamed legend, the waves crashing against the rocks, or the untamed sea that earned it the nickname “Cape of Storms.” Visiting the Cape is an awe-inspiring experience. Not even the best camera in the world can capture the sublime beauty of this place. For this reason, we recommend taking the cable car (or an alternative transport if it’s closed) to fully enjoy the magnificence of this place in all its splendor. Accommodation.
Breakfast. Free day to enjoy the city at your own pace with the Cape Town Pass.
Breakfast. Private transfer to the train station to begin our fantastic journey ending in Pretoria. Let’s board the vintage wooden carriages and relax as some of the most varied landscapes imaginable unfold beyond the windows. With discreet and friendly service, top-notch cuisine, and a selection of South Africa’s finest wines, Rovos Rail takes us back to a simpler, more elegant era that embodies the timeless grace and romance of African exploration. The beautifully restored carriages accommodate a maximum of 72 passengers in 36 magnificently appointed suites. At 4:30 p.m., we’ll have the opportunity to enjoy a pleasant tea in the lounge or observation carriages. At 7:30 p.m., we’ll enjoy dinner in the dining carriages as the train begins its ascent up the mountain. Please remember that the dress code for dinner is “formal.” Around midnight, the train will cross the first of four tunnels in the pass, with the final tunnel extending over 13 km, so travelers are advised to take caution. Overnight on board.
After breakfast, we will disembark in Matjiesfontein to have the opportunity to stroll through this historic village. Of particular interest is the museum on the platform and a collection of historic cars and railway carriages. Back on the train, we will pass through a vast semi-desert region that was once a massive inland sea. Over millions of years, volcanic material was ground down and deposited as silt over the seabed to form what geologists call the Karoo system. Dinner and overnight on board.
After breakfast, we’ll enjoy a tour of the Kimberley Diamond Mine Museum and the Big Hole. The capital of the Northern Cape, Kimberley is well known for the discovery of diamonds that led to its establishment in 1871. Lunch on the train as it continues northeast towards Klerksdorp and the vast plains of the Highveld. Dinner and overnight on board.
Breakfast. The train will arrive at Pretoria station, where our train journey concludes. Private transfer to our hotel in Pretoria and accommodation.
Breakfast. Free time. At the scheduled time, transfer to Johannesburg airport for departure on a flight to the home city, via international stopover. Overnight on board.
