Ortigueria

Galicia, Spain

Ortigueira, Between Cabo Ortegal and Estaca de Bares opens the winding Ría de Ortigueira. Dotted with beaches and unspoiled coves, Ortigueira is an estuary of lush vegetation and rugged landscapes, crowned by the mountains of A Capelada, where wild horses and the "herba de namorar" (grass to fall in love) abound

In front of the island of San Vicente, which can be reached on foot at low tide, stretches the spectacular Morouzos beach, more than 2 km long and surrounded by pine forests.

In front of Cabo Ortegal are Os Aguillóns, spectacular cliffs that are more than 1,160 million years old, making them some of the oldest rocks on earth.

In the Morouzos beach the second weekend of July, more than 20,000 people camp to attend the Celtic World Festival of Ortigueira, which has been held since 1978, has become an event of international relevance for lovers of folk music.
