A Coruña

Galicia, Spain

A Coruña, Day and night, there is always an atmosphere here. This is a city to stroll and enjoy, with beaches right in the center and, presided over by the Tower of Hercules, a long promenade that surrounds it almost completely.

The people of A Coruña have a reputation for living well, so follow their customs. Sit on a terrace in the Plaza de María Pita and discover its exciting history. Or stroll through the Cantones and admire its famous modernist glass galleries. And if you want to go shopping, this is the perfect place, especially if you want to dress fashionably.

In addition, A Coruña has excellent museums such as the Fine Arts Museum, the House of Sciences, the Domus or the Archaeological Museum, in the Castle of San Antón. And at sunset, nothing like the cozy and romantic San Carlos Garden or if you prefer animation, the Méndez Núñez Gardens, right in the center. Here is the Kiosko Alfonso, today an exhibition hall and formerly a cinema with two rooms divided by the screen, so that a cheaper ticket was paid ... watching the movie from behind.

One of the most unforgettable experiences that visitors can take away from A Coruña, and Galicia, is the contemplation of a sunset from the Tower of Hercules.

The sun is disappearing in the Atlantic Finisterrae, with a dreamlike landscape, in front of the only Roman lighthouse in the world still in operation, accompanied by a sculpture park with figures representing the legendary origins of the tower and the city: Artabros, by Arturo Andrade; Breogán, by Xosé Cid; Charon, by Ramón Conde; Hercules and Geryon, by Tim Behrens and José Espora; and the forest of menhirs by Manolo Paz.

The Tower is the work of the architect of Coimbra Cayo Sevio Lupo from the beginning of the second century. It presents the exterior aspect that in 1791 gave it the reform of the engineers E. Giannini (author of the plans) and J. Elejalde.
